Acting VC John Pumwa has gone into hiding, letting Unitech to run itself. Even without his presence the university seems to be doing nicely. Of course there is good reason why Prof Pumwa is hiding. The students and staff don't trust him and maybe even Peter O'Neill has stopped trusting him after Prof Pumwa let out the secret that Mr ONeill promised him the VC job permanently if he wanted.
Prof Pumwa joined the side of evil along with Mr ONeill, ignoring the legalities and moralities that make Dr Schrum still the VC. For all the good words Prof Pumwa speaks in honouring our Lord and Saviour, he doesn't put much practice into following how Jesus teaches us to live. He is clinging to his job now despite having lost all respect, because he dreams of being the permanent VC of Unitech.
The secrets about Prof Pumwa are now spilling out one by one, including a very expensive trip he took last October to America that was only paid for because of his position as VC but only benefited his own department and he didn't even bring along the head of that department. A brief investigation
on the internet finds that Prof Pumwa has promoted himself as "the first person from Papua New Guinea to receive a Ph.D."
This is the Prof Pumwa we know, exaggerating his accomplishments beyond belief, self confident way over his abilities, but who cannot even show up for his own talk at an important scientific conference talk because he drank too much the night before. This is the man who feels he does a better job as VC than Dr Albert Schrum, a man who remains exiled for no good reason because people like Prof Pumwa and his good friend the prime minister have no belief in treating others fairly and fighting for the rights of the innocent.
Prof Pumwa is no longer on neutral ground, he is in bed with evil people like the prime minister. Unitech is in complete paralysis because he will not step aside and let someone take his place who the students trust and can negotiate with. Prof Pumwa is hoping that the prime minister hasn't been told about what Prof Pumwa said in church 2 weeks ago. Prof Pumwa seems to hope that the PM will send the police into unitech so that Prof Pumwa feels safe again to come out and go back into his usual office to hide.
The saga of Unitech is not going anywhere only because Prof Pumwa is still the main obstruction and he has no interest in losing power. Maybe it is time to write his friends back in America at Texas A&M university to introduce them to the real John Pumwa, a man desiring of power and not concerned in the least about the fate of students and the university he works for.
